Fears & Phobias

Fears & phobiasBy using a combination of hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), it is possible to feel calm and in control once more.

When the fear of something (be it spiders, the dark or public speaking) becomes so intense that you will do anything to avoid it, this can be said to be a phobia. We all tend to have minor fears about certain things or issues, but if these do not threaten to interfere with the way we live our lives, then we can usually cope with them.

Somebody with a strong phobia would tend to react with emotion even just thinking about the thing in question, and in this case it can make that person’s life very uncomfortable.

Phobias are often picked up in childhood, sometimes from our parents, who may have been fearful of the same thing, and unknowingly have passed this fear it on to the next generation. As children, we are like sponges, and our subconscious minds are very receptive, particularly in times of high emotion, for example when we have had an accident, or been hurt by something or somebody. These feelings and emotions can then become hardwired into the subconscious mind, and thus a phobia is established.

By using a combination of hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), it is possible to let go of the fear very quickly. It is so gratifying when people contact me after treatment, thrilled that their lives are so much easier and more fulfilling now they no longer have to live with this problem any more.

  • Claustrophobia/fear of flying*

    *Mr G, Diss

This was it, we were going to Rome, on a flight, I had two months to prepare! I hadn’t been in a ‘plane for fifteen years and since that time I had developed a real fear of enclosed spaces, lifts, travelling on the underground, even workplace conferences and large concert venues. I would get nervous days or even weeks before and as the event or journey neared this would increase; I would feel faint, shake, sweat profusely and feel nauseous. I had tried avoidance techniques, focusing techniques, yoga and mindfulness. I was still terrified and recognised I needed help.

Wendy was recommended by a friend who noted real improvements in her mind set following two sessions (with Wendy). With the only real alternative being prescription drugs, which in any event wouldn’t allay my building trepidation as the holiday and flight loomed, I was willing to give hypnotherapy “a go.”

I was a little anxious about taking this step as frankly I was not a little embarrassed; however, Wendy was speedy to return my initial enquiry and very welcoming on the ‘phone. I felt re-assured and booked a session.

Our initial discussion was very straightforward and Wendy’s approach and manner made it easy for me to explain my fears and concerns in an honest and open way. Offered a first hypnotherapy “session” immediately after this conversation I readily agreed…and felt fine afterwards. Wendy then sent me a cd with a shorter recorded session, which I used daily and which over a very short time brought notable effects in my daily life. Events which had previously been “difficult” were absolutely fine, the usual symptoms just didn’t materialise.

A second “booster” session was undertaken prior to the big day and I felt very ready for the journey. I hadn’t experienced any of the anxiety leading up to the holiday that I was expecting and felt very calm and in control. The flight(s) were fine, I experienced only the normal sensation(s) as the ‘plane took off and levelled off, but enjoyed both flights. It was and is a genuine and real revelation.

My thanks to Wendy and I heartily recommend taking the step to meet Wendy and try hypnotherapy for whatever reason(s) you wish to.*

  • Exam Phobia*

    Mr D, Sudbury

*"Hello Wendy, I just wanted to let you know that I got into the University to study Classics. Thank you for all your help in getting me through my A levels, I shall be forever grateful."*

  • Fear of Flying*

    Mr M, Ringshall

*"I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for helping me with my fear of flying. As I explained it had stopped me from doing so many things. I was so grateful to be seen at such short notice and I could not believe how in control I was using the CD and the simple relaxation techniques you taught me. I have already started recommending you to friends and colleagues."*

  • Fear of Horse Riding*

    Mrs C, Woolpit.

*"I contacted Wendy after having a couple of falls off my horse, which had really knocked my confidence, to the extent that I was no longer enjoying riding, although I still wanted to.

After two sessions with Wendy, I have found my enjoyment returning along with my confidence. Each time I ride things improve. I had never considered hypnotherapy before and didn't know what to expect, but what I have found is that somehow it changes your mindset which then enables you to make the changes that you want. The CD Wendy gave me is also very useful in keeping me on track. Wendy is very kind, calming and approachable and I would have no hesitation in recommending her."*
