Improved Sleep

Sleep ProblemsDuring stressful periods, sleep can sometimes suffer. Hypnotherapy has been proven to deepen the quality of sleep, leaving you more rested the following day.

We all need different amounts of sleep – 6 hours for some people is more than enough, whereas others may need 9 or even 10 hours. What is really important, however, is the quality of sleep that you are getting. This can make all the difference between feeling energised first thing in the morning, or waking up feeling quite groggy.

When we sleep, we go through several cycles of deep and lighter sleep each night. At the end of each cycle, a different kind of sleep called REM (rapid eye movement) takes over and this is when we go into a dream state, which happens every 90 minutes or so. Dream sleep and deep sleep are both important to good mental and physical health.

Losing a night’s sleep once in a while should not cause any lasting problems. It is when sleep problems become habitual that there can sometimes be a knock-on effect on general health. During stressful periods, sleep can sometimes suffer. In this case, it is important to think about certain lifestyle changes, such as limiting caffeine and alcohol, getting a healthy diet and regular exercise, and avoiding stress as much as possible.

Hypnotherapy has been proven in recent studies to deepen the quality of sleep, so that in an experiment conducted in the Netherlands those who were hypnotised found that they experienced a much more refreshing night’s sleep, and were consequently much more rested the next day.

Many people who come to me with sleep problems are usually going through periods of stress in their lives, and so we look at how to tackle these problems, as well as going through different relaxation techniques. My clients all say that my treatments are deeply relaxing, and even if they have not come to me with sleep problems, they end up enjoying much better quality sleep!
