Getting a bit more confident

When I was a little girl, I was a bit of a mouse and was always being told that I was shy and lacking in confidence. It seemed to become a self-fulfilling prophecy, I was the timid, quiet one, never putting herself forward or raising her hand in class. One thing that did bring me out of myself was drama, I loved it and – if I had my time again – I would have gone into acting. Unfortunately growing up in the 1960s and 1970s I was told that I would work in a bank or become a secretary, I am so glad that things have changed!

If you meet me now I am sure that you would find it hard to believe that I lacked confidence as I am certainly not backward in coming forward. I have hypnotherapy to thank for that. Through what I have learnt in my studies and through the years of practicing I have gained in self-esteem and confidence enormously and, as the French say, I am now ‘bien dans ma peau’ which literally translates as ‘feeling good in your skin’, or you could say it means just feeling happy and confident in who you are.

There is a saying ‘show me the child at seven and I will show you the man’. Who remembers that wonderful documentary called ‘Seven up’ which documented the lives of people of all different backgrounds every seven years? I think that there is a final series due to be aired, it has been absolutely riveting to see how people’s lives have panned out. However, I don’t really hold to the child’s identity being fixed through life as I believe that, if we want to, we can absolutely change. And for the better.

Maybe it’s the case that there was always a confident person deep down inside me and it was just waiting to come out. I am what you would call a ‘late starter’! But I have learnt, through the study of hypnotherapy and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) that, as individuals, we are not fixed but we can change if we desire it.

I wonder if there is a confident, expressive person inside you just waiting to be released? Maybe you would love to find out how hypnotherapy can help with you self-esteem and confidence in all sorts of ways, perhaps public speaking, starting a new venture or being more confident in relationships. Do get in touch, I would love to be able to help you with this.

In the meantime, keep cool.
